Current Sermon Series
We have had several requests for the video used in worship during our Children's Sabbath. Below is the video where our SPARKS children are answering the question, "What does it mean to have a pure heart?"
Blessed are You
Sermon Series begins September 11
We are beginning an exciting exploration of the Beatitudes – Jesus’ teachings about real life and the blessings that can be found there. This church-wide study, entitled “Blessed Are You,” will offer a focused sermon series and a common study and discussion theme across the entire church as each of the Adult SS classes, Youth classes and some of the Children's classes will be speaking the language of 'Blessed.' If you need help connecting to a class or small group, please speak with Rev. Sally Campbell-Evans and she can assist you.
Our primary resource is The Beatitudes for Today by Dr. James C. Howell. Rev. Howell is Senior Minister at Myers Park United Methodist Church in Charlotte, NC. In his book, Howell asks us to examine both what Jesus said and what He did not say in these teachings. Dr. Howell considers each of the well-known phrases in these passages from Matthew and creatively applies them to our contemporary world and Christian lives today.
We’re excited about this new endeavor and believe the “Blessed Are You” Beatitudes study will provide many opportunities for us to grow in our understanding of these familiar words of Jesus, as we find meaningful ways to engage with this material beyond hearing sermons in worship. Classes will study the material together, plus daily devotional guides will be distributed at the beginning of the series. These guides have been developed by nine of our church members and staff. We hope they will be helpful to you in the weeks ahead. (Note: A $5 contribution is suggested for these devotional guides to cover the printing cost. Also, if anyone wants their own copy of Howell's book, they are $10 each. See Sally C-E to order a copy.)
We trust that this study will be meaningful for you as well as offer you a chance to make some new friends, gain some valuable insights on these often-quoted scripture passages, and deepen your relationship with God. We do encourage you to make some time in your schedule to participate, and please feel free to invite a friend!

Worship: Encountering God Each Week
Ever wonder why week after week Christians faithfully attend worship? Ever question why we include certain elements in worship each week, but not others or why we have the same order of service most weeks? Join us starting Sunday, May 15 for our sermon series exploring worship, our central act as a church where we encounter God. We'll explore these questions and how this applies to our daily lives using the basic pattern of worship of "Entrance, Proclamation and Response, Thanksgiving and Communion, and Sending Forth."
Sundays in the series:
May 15- Entrance
May 22- Proclamation and Response
May 29- Thanksgiving and Communion
June 5- Sending Forth
