Alzheimer's Project of Tallahassee
In 1991, guided by the influence of Reverend John Fletcher, Saint Paul's United Methodist Church introduced a Christian outreach program we now call The Alzheimer's Project. As Christians and United Methodists, Saint Paul's adheres to the tenets of "The Social Creed" which includes a commitment to the "rights of the aging" and "the improvement of the quality of life."
Even with the advancements in science and medical care, some experience great heartache and distress that aging can bring with it. This is nearly always the case for those who suffer with Alzheimer's and other related mental diseases or dementias. Alzheimer's is devastating for both victims and their families.
There is often a large gap between available, affordable care and the extensive needs of some of those who suffer with Alzheimer's. As members of society, we are asked to care for one another and to share our spiritual lights with those in need, and it is with this charge to help relieve the suffering of others that Saint Paul's United Methodist Church sponsors and supports The Alzheimer's Project.
The Alzheimer's Project was first incorporated as the non-profit organization Alzheimer's Project of Tallahassee, Inc., in 1992. In 2006, The Project celebrated 15 years of service to the Tallahassee and Leon County community. Also, in December of 2006, the Alzheimer's Project combined services and resources with the Alzheimer's Resource Center of Tallahassee to become the agency it is today.
The Alzheimer's Project proudly continues to provide ALL of its services free of charge to qualified clients.
