Alzheimer's Project of Tallahassee
In 1991, guided by the influence of Reverend John Fletcher, Saint Paul's United Methodist Church introduced a Christian outreach program we now call The Alzheimer's Project. As Christians and United Methodists, Saint Paul's adheres to the tenets of "The Social Creed" which includes a commitment to the "rights of the aging" and "the improvement of the quality of life."
Even with the advancements in science and medical care, some experience great heartache and distress that aging can bring with it. This is nearly always the case for those who suffer with Alzheimer's and other related mental diseases or dementias. Alzheimer's is devastating for both victims and their families.
There is often a large gap between available, affordable care and the extensive needs of some of those who suffer with Alzheimer's. As members of society, we are asked to care for one another and to share our spiritual lights with those in need, and it is with this charge to help relieve the suffering of others that Saint Paul's United Methodist Church sponsors and supports The Alzheimer's Project.
The Alzheimer's Project was first incorporated as the non-profit organization Alzheimer's Project of Tallahassee, Inc., in 1992. In 2006, The Project celebrated 15 years of service to the Tallahassee and Leon County community. Also, in December of 2006, the Alzheimer's Project combined services and resources with the Alzheimer's Resource Center of Tallahassee to become the agency it is today.
The Alzheimer's Project proudly continues to provide ALL of its services free of charge to qualified clients.

Florida United Methodist Children's Home
Last year the Mission Lay Committee held a gift card drive at Christmas so the children at the Children's Home could purchase items of their choice from the stores, enabled the children at Saint Paul's Vacation Bible School to fill personal hygiene bags to be given to children when they arricve at the Children's Home, and placed the "Little House" bank on the altar for children to make donations to the Children's Home during the Children's sermon at each service.
The local liason to the Children's Home is Janet Clark, at 385-3089.
Disaster Response Team
Last year the Disaster Response team held a series of Disaster Preparedness classes, evaluated the church campus for possible safety hazards, and made plans for Saint Paul's to be a meal preparation site for the Red Cross in cases of local disasters.

Wade Pierce is leading the first trip to Lake Charles, Louisiana April 10-17. Wade can be reached at 562-4225. HOPE Community
HOPE Community is a comprehensive human services center designed to be a “one-stop-shop” to provide a seamless array of services to address the needs of the homeless. It will serve as an entry point to our continuum of care where coordinated services will be tailored to help meet the needs of homeless individuals and families. This single location will provide a multitude of services needed to help individuals and families move from homelessness to independent living.
The Missions committee coordinates with Saint Paul's Sunday School classes to provide evening meals to the residents. Volunteers plan the menus, cook and serve the food.
