WELCOME

Welcome to Saint Paul's United Methodist Church.

Alzheimer's Gala ~ Saturday, March 6th

The Alzheimer's Project will have their annual Gala this coming Saturday night, March 6th, at the University Club at Doak Campbell Stadium. Come out to support this life giving effort, born out of our church and reaching out to serve an important need that affects so many. Your support for the Alzheimer's Project means that they can provide services to families who have loved ones suffering from this disease free of charge.

The evening will feature a delicious three-course meal, a silent auction for many wonderful items from weekends at the beach to art to fun gift items, and dancing to the sounds of an up and coming Tallahassee band

Come for the fun, festivities and the funding of a fine organization!

Tending God's Family Spring Programs

Our brand new Spring brochure is available for download.  We have Bible studies, topical studies, special art classes, events for children, youth, young adults, parents and older adults.  Our greatest desire is not that you come out for all these many events, but that you find the right place to grow in your faith and to make a difference with your life.  (Thanks to Peggy Benton, our artist in residence, who outlined our Spring Brochure artwork, and the children in our SPARKS midweek program who painted it!)

Lenton Jar ~ Establish one in your home this Lent!

Families have many times that they can celebrate - birthdays, Christmas, special achievements or awards, etc.  Many people would not think of Lent as a time of celebration.  Yet, it is a time when we can recall the great love and mercy of God who gave his Son for us.  That is reason to celebrate!  And although Jesus' love for his Father and for us led him to the cross, he was raised and won our salvation.  That is very good news for us.

Our Children's Ministries Lay Team has created for our church families "The Lenten Jar."  Whether you are single, have little ones, teenagers or grown children now, "The Lenten Jar" will help move you through the season of Lent.  Lent is a time when we prepare our hearts, minds and souls for the sacred observances of Christ's death on Good Friday and his resurrection on Easter.

Displays of sample jars will be set up in the Narthexes and Sanders Hall beginning on February 14.  You may also click here to print out the paper slips to be cut apart and placed in your jar at home.  The slips contain messages and actions for you to do daily during Lent  ~ February 17, Ash Wednesday through April 4, Easter Sunday!

Happy Season of Lent!

Job Board for those seeking employment

In these tough economic times, the Surrendered Life Sunday School class developed an online job board where potential openings might be shared and people seeking work might post their interests.  To see the online version, you may go to this link:

or you may see the actual board across from Jill and Sally's office just off Sanders Hall.  Many thanks to Rachel McCleery, Darren Robinette, Lowell and Mary Faith Mook for working on this idea.

Nothing But Nets Campaign

From the Nothing but Nets blog, posted May 29, 2009, written by Adrianna Logalbo:

Miss Dragonfly

I feel lucky. Every day I get to work on this incredible campaign with dedicated people and wonderful partners. But it is our supporters who are truly inspiring – those of you who contribute your time, your energy and even your hard-earned funds to help protect people half a world away from a simple, albeit deadly, mosquito bite.

And there is one little person who is truly amazing. Many of you may know her story already, but Katherine is about to reach $100,000 raised – or 10,000 bed nets! And that deserves a shout-out!

I first met Katherine on her 5th birthday in New York City. She had already raised $10,000 by that point, but little did we know she was just getting started!

So last month it seemed fitting that Katherine would receive an incredible honor – Katherine was awarded the Dragonfly Award – a special award to recognize an individual who has made remarkable efforts in fighting malaria. (The award is named for the natural predator of the mosquito.) Timothy Shriver, Chairman of the Special Olympics, presented Katherine with her award at the One World Summit in Washington, DC on April 24, marking World Malaria Day. And she received a standing ovation!

At just 8-years-old Katherine has done more than many of us! She has appeared on CNN, given presentations everywhere from schools to major events, been featured on the front-page of The New York Times, and even shook President Bill Clinton’s hand! And it is all due to her efforts to help protect children in Africa from malaria.

Katherine is a remarkable person and she is saving lives. I feel lucky to know her and I know we are lucky to have her as a Champion for Nothing But Nets. Congratulations Katherine. We can’t wait to celebrate your 10,000th bed net!
